09 Adventure: Christmas at Cradle Mountain
Want a change from your usual Christmas? Want 2010 to be the year of Adventure? You can kick off in spectacular fashion with a trekking trip to Tasmania's Overland Track & Beautiful Cradle Mountain
It's a six day walk, travelling 65 kilometres through the heart of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
The Overland Track from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair is a true wilderness walk which travels through spectacular dolerite mountains, near beautiful waterfalls, through a variety of fascinating ecosystems and close to Tasmania's highest mountain, before finishing at Australia's deepest Lake. The stunning scenery and the physical challenges of this mountain walk have ensured that the Overland Track has built a national and international reputation as one of the great wilderness bushwalks.
As a result, demand for experiences on the Overland Track is high and there are concerns about environmental degradation and overcrowding. It is imperative for the track to be managed strategically to ensure it remains a sustainable, safe, world class wilderness walk.If you want to find out more about the Overland Track goto http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/index.aspx?base=7771
Who is Going? This Trip is being organised by 2 of our Recruits Colin & Sandy Suckling. They are an adventurous & down to earth pair who in their time with us (18months) have completed the Melbourne Marathon, Trekked Nepal & India, Took in Japan & trekked just about every track there is in Victoria in preparation for Sandy's March 09 Kokoda Track journey (as part of our independent Documentary Kokoda: Women on The March.

Why are they inviting others? Since I've known them, these two have always been genuinely keen to adventure it is a passion of theirs & one they want to share & help others discover. I saw this especially in the 14 days I spent trekking Kokoda with Sandy & Cara likewise saw it in Col as he had a Bootcamp Adventure back at home in Melbourne!
But I've never even been camping before, let alone trekking? No worries Col & Sandy are very experienced in trekking & will show you everything from what you need to wear, bring & how to pack your pack!

Further Info from Col & Sandy
Hi Everyone!
A bit more about the trip, there are huts available first in first served bases or tent platforms for your tent. Col and I took our tent as we prefer that. You have to take in all your own gear food cooking stuff etc. If there is a few in the group you usually work that out in a group who has what and share eg. Cooker, fuel, gas burner etc one person takes an item then we share at meal times.
The dates we are looking at are to leave for Launceston on the 27th Dec stay the night there and bus the next day to Cradle Mt stay the night there in a cabin and then start the walking the next day 29th Dec to the 4th Jan then stay at lake St Claire or bus straight out to Hobart. In Hobart Col and I would stay there for a couple of nights and then come home. I have to be home before my birthday as my kids want to do something for me for my 50th! Otherwise I'd probably be on top of a hill somewhere looking at a great view would for my birthday. Hope to talk to you soon Sandy
